E-Commerce Update: Courtesy Meeting with Directorate General of Domestic Trade
31st August 2021
Dear AmCham Members & Friends, We would like to invite you to a courtesy meeting with Oke Nurwan, Director General of Domestic Trade from the Ministry of Trade, to discuss Indonesia's e-commerce policies.
Indonesia has seen rapid expansion of the e-commerce industry, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. With the increasing use of mobile phones, and a young population, Indonesia’s e-commerce value will continue to rise in the years to come. Responding to this, the government has provided a legal basis for e-commerce players, Government Regulation (PP) 80/2019 regarding Trade through Electronic System (e-commerce regulation).
The implementing regulation, Minister of Trade Regulation 50/2020 covers some technical details regarding online transaction requirements, including the types of licenses and business permits required, “significant economic presence” criteria, as well as provisions for online advertising. The regulation is being revised to add provisions such as protection of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs); curbing predatory pricing; and local content (TKDN) provisions in e-commerce.
The meeting will seek clarification on current e-commerce policies, particularly the progress of the revision of Minister of Trade Regulation 50/2020, and receive insights on important changes in the revision, and a timeline of when the revision will be completed.
If you would like to submit questions for the meeting, please contact Peter Sean Lie at peter.lie@amcham.or.id.
Thank you and we look forward to your participation.
