The National Agency of Drug and Food Control has the function of implementation of supervisory duties on the importation of drug and food ingredients prior to the distribution and during the distribution. The supervision is intended to protect the community from the importation of drug and food ingredients, whose safety, efficacy/benefit, and quality are not guaranteed, into the territory of Indonesia. Based on such considerations, on 14 November 2022, the Head of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control issued Regulation of the Head of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control Number 26 Year 2022 regarding Supervision of the Importation of Drugs and Food Ingredients into the Territory of Indonesia which comes into effect on 14 December 2022.

Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan memiliki fungsi pelaksanaan tugas pengawasan terhadap pemasukan bahan obat dan makanan sebelum beredar dan selama beredar. Pengawasan tersebut dimaksudkan untuk melindungi masyarakat dari pemasukan bahan obat dan makanan yang tidak terjamin keamanan, khasiat/manfaat, dan mutu ke dalam wilayah Indonesia. Berdasarkan pertimbangan tersebut, pada tanggal 14 November 2022, Kepala Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan menerbitkan Peraturan Kepala Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Nomor 26 Tahun 2022 tentang Pengawasan Pemasukan Bahan Obat dan Makanan ke dalam Wilayah Indonesia yang mulai berlaku pada tanggal 14 Desember 2022.
