Personal data protection is part of personal protection, which is one of the human rights. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a legal basis to provide security for personal data. Personal data protection is aimed at guaranteeing the right of citizens to personal protection and raising community awareness as well as ensuring recognition and respect for the importance of personal data protection. Based on these considerations, on 17 October 2022, the President of the Republic of Indonesia stipulated Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 27 Year 2022 regarding Personal Data Protection.

Pelindungan data pribadi merupakan bagian dari pelindungan diri pribadi, yang merupakan salah satu hak asasi manusia. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya landasan hukum untuk memberikan keamanan atas data pribadi. Pelindungan data pribadi ditujukan untuk menjamin hak warga negara atas pelindungan diri pribadi dan menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat serta menjamin pengakuan dan penghormatan atas pentingnya pelindungan data pribadi. Berdasarkan pertimbangan-pertimbangan tersebut, pada tanggal 17 Oktober 2022, Presiden Republik Indonesia menetapkan Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 27 Tahun 2022 tentang Pelindungan Data Pribadi.
