AmCham Taxation Update: Tax Harmonization Law and its Impact on Business



Dear AmCham Members and Friends, AmCham Indonesia would like to invite you to a virtual discussion with Brian Arnold, Technical Advisor and Partner at PwC; Benjamin Koesmoeljana, ASEAN Resources; International Tax and Transaction Services Leader and Partner at EY; and moderator Rusmaini Lenggogeni, Partner at SSEK Legal Consultants, to discuss the Tax Harmonization Law (Undang - Undang Harmonisasi Peraturan Perpajakan or UU HPP).

As a business chamber, we recognize the delicate nature of the tax period and the importance of knowing the most up-to-date information regarding Indonesian tax administration for our companies. Through this event, we will take a look at the regulatory updates for taxation in Indonesia under the new Law, explore what this will mean for businesses in the future, and examine its implementing regulations.

Brian Arnold
Technical Advisor, Partner, PwC

Brian is a Technical Advisor at PwC in Jakarta with more than 28 years professional experience as an international tax advisor. Throughout his career he has focused on advising multi-national clients in navigating the often complex tax and regulatory environment experienced when investing and operating businesses in emerging markets. Prior to arriving in Jakarta in 2012, he was a tax partner at PwC in Central and Eastern Europe, including time spent based in Russia, Romania and Moldova.

While most of his career has been with PwC, he worked for Macquarie Bank for several years while living in Korea. He originally joined the international tax services group at PwC's New York office in 1992 and also spent time earlier in his career working for PwC in Moscow and Seoul.

His qualifications include a Masters in Professional Accounting (Tax) from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Saint Michael’s College (Vermont, USA). Brian is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He serves on AmCham Indonesia's Board of Governors and was AmCham President from 2014-2018. He was also previously an active member of the respective AmChams in Korea, Russia, Romania and Moldova.

Benjamin Koesmoeljana
ASEAN Resources; International Tax and Transaction Services Leader, Partner, EY

Not only serving as a Tax Partner in EY Indonesia, Ben is also the ASEAN Resources Tax Market Segment Leader and the International Transaction and Tax Services (ITTS) Leader. At EY Indonesia, his responsibilities are mainly focused on the resources sector (covering oil and gas, mining and metals, and chemicals), private equity, and e-commerce industry. Ben has lent a helping hand on complex pre-IPO and post-IPO structuring for numerous clients across various industries including banking, telecommunications, media, mining and pharmaceutical. Beyond his niche, Ben has also advised on several due diligence cases and advised on e-commerce and micro financing by banks.

Before joining EY in 1995, Ben was a senior corporate commercial lawyer with a large Australian law firm, specializing in revenue law. He completed practical legal training at the College of Law, Sydney, Australia. He possesses a combined Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws, and Master of Laws from University of Sydney, Australia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance from the Securities Institute of Australia and also an Australian Chartered Accountant.
